As a Volunteer Youth Sports Coach at the YMCA, you’ll play a vital role in creating a positive, supportive, and fun environment where young athletes can grow in skill, confidence, and teamwork. Coaches serve as role models, helping youth develop not only athletic abilities but also strong character and sportsmanship. Key Responsibilities: Lead practices and coach games for a designated age group and sport Teach basic skills, rules, and strategies in an age-appropriate manner Encourage teamwork, effort, and a positive attitude Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants Communicate effectively with players, parents, and YMCA staff Uphold the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility

🎯 Project Goals – Youth Sports Coach Volunteer Program 1. Promote Youth Development Foster physical, emotional, and social growth in young athletes by teaching fundamental sports skills, teamwork, and positive character traits. 2. Encourage Healthy, Active Lifestyles Inspire children to stay active and engaged through regular physical activity in a fun and supportive environment. 3. Build Positive Rold Models Provide youth with caring, responsible adult mentors who demonstrate leadership, respect, and good sportsmanship. 4. Strengthen Community Connections Create a sense of belonging for families and participants through inclusive, community-centered sports programming. 5. Ensure a Safe and Supportive Environment Maintain a culture of safety and respect on and off the field, aligning with YMCA policies and values. 6. Support Volunteer Growth and Development Equip volunteer coaches with the tools, training, and feedback they need to be confident, effective, and inspired in their role.

⚠️Primary Safety Goals 1. Ensure Physical Safety of All Participants Maintain a safe playing environment (equipment checks, clear field/court, proper supervision). Teach and enforce proper techniques to prevent injuries. Follow sport-specific safety rules and age-appropriate guidelines. 2. Create an Emotionally Safe Environment Promote respect, inclusion, and positive reinforcement. Prevent bullying, discrimination, or negative coaching behaviors. Support all participants regardless of skill level or background. 3. Follow YMCA Child Protection Policies Complete mandatory child abuse prevention training. Adhere to "Rule of 3" (never be alone with a child). Report any concerns or incidents to YMCA leadership immediately. 4. Be Emergency-Prepared Know the YMCA’s emergency procedures and reporting protocols. Have access to a first aid kit and know basic first aid/CPR (YMCA may offer training). Have emergency contact information available during practices/games. 5. Promote Health Awareness Encourage hydration, rest, and injury reporting. Follow guidelines for illness prevention (e.g. COVID-19 or flu protocols, if applicable). Respect any medical needs or restrictions noted by parents/guardians.

❌ Cancellation Policy – Youth Sports Coaching Coach Cancellation: 1. Coaches should notify the YMCA Sports Program Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance if they are unable to attend a practice or game. 2. If a coach cannot be present, they should make reasonable efforts to find a qualified substitute or inform the YMCA so alternate arrangements can be made. 3. Frequent or last-minute cancellations may result in reassignment or removal from the coaching position
